Despite popular belief that this ‘children’s’ Christmas song refers to the 12 days leading up until Christmas day,  it does in fact refer to the 12 days beginning with Christmas Day through to Epiphany (6th January)The origins are complicated and counting the days varies depending on your cultural and calendar differences but no the less refers to, I believe (as there is little hard and fast evidence on either side),  this historic period in time.

On the first day of Christmas
My True Love sent to me
A Partridge in a pear tree.

‘My True Love’ refers to God. The partridge in a pear tree is Jesus himself, whose birthday we celebrate today. He is symbolically presented as the  mother partridge protecting her nestlings.

My reason for sharing this here is that my planned journal ‘12 Days of Christmas’ starts today, something I wanted down on paper is now in motion. So forgive me my indulgence as I create this special journal.

I hope that where ever you are, what ever you do today you are with someone you love and who loves you. For all the money in the world cannot buy this greatest gift.

Have a wonderful day Merry Christmas

Until later xx…..
