ACTOh gawd, I feel like I have had a night out on the town this morning. Stayed up way to late watching Comic Relief and supping on a bottle of red seemed like a good idea at the time. Still, I laughed and laughed and cried a little in between. I thought I was holding it together quite well until the Domestic Violence film and the plea for enough cash to modify a mobile phone so that one touch of a button, any button would dial 999.

£50 is what it takes to do just that and £50 is what I will donate. I will make and sell nose.pngsome cards and do whatever it takes to pay for one of these conversions. I have, with a lot of other women, raised funds for www.womansaid.co.uk  over the last few years. I have come to know too many women and their horrific stories of domestic violence. A couple of years ago I hand delivered 100’s of £ worth of vouchers to safe centre in Glasgow on behalf of www.wyoung.co.uk and those memories will live with me forever.

Last night was also a bit of an education for my girls. They sat and watched a few hours of Comic Relief with us and the looks on their faces was one of horror as the short films made by various stars played out on screen. It was a wonderful opportunity to tackle subjects and uncomfortable issues that would never come up normally. Watching children die from curable and preventable diseases is never good to watch, but its real and its happening now. Something as simple as clean water changes and saves lives and that message was brought home to the girls with the powerful film footage from Ant & Dec whom they love. It was all good in a very odd way.

The girls also wanted to know why a net over a pregnant African ladies bed could save her and her unborn child’s life, so weMos Net discussed this and then  I asked them how much pocket money they get each week and then they both realised that even at their ages of 10 & 11, they get enough each week for sweets and savings to cover the cost of a mosquito net. Yes they have to earn half of that but they still get it. Today I think that the will set aside £2.50  to pay for a net. What a great result!

Every 30 seconds a child in Africa dies from Malaria.

The total raised by Comic Relief this morning stands at  £34,269,843
